Wrinkles and lines on our faces appear as we age, due to repeated muscle contractions of the face and our natural genetic inheritance. Some external factors accelerate the process, such as over-exposure to the sun and sun beds, excessive alcohol intake, unhealthy diet and smoking. Traditionally, surgical procedures such as face-lifts were required to eliminate these lines. But today, facial rejuvenation, using Botulinum toxin and dermal fillers, is a popular non-surgical approach to fight those unwelcome wrinkles without the risk, recovery time, and expense of surgery.

Botulinum toxin (commonly known as Botox) and dermal fillers can be effective for both males and females, and used either separately or in combination to achieve a subtle and natural effect. The procedure is pain-free and the natural results will start to show after a few days, with the full effect noticed in two weeks, and depending on muscle tone, some individuals may need an extra dose to achieve an enhanced result.

Wrinkle smoothing

Botulinum Toxin (more commonly known as Botox) is probably the most popular aesthetic medical treatment for facial lines and wrinkles in the UK. It is a simple, pain-free, non-surgical treatment used to relax the muscles mainly on the upper part of the face between the eyebrows, on the forehead and crow’s feet around the eyes. This results in prevention of premature wrinkles and smoothes out existing ones while still allowing for some natural movement of these muscles to maintain facial expressions. Preventive treatment of early lines and wrinkles in your twenties and early thirties will stop the early dynamic facial lines from turning into static deep lines and folds. Treatment at a later age works well but may need to be accompanied by other treatments such as dermal fillers. Other than wrinkle smoothing, we use Botulinum toxin for brow lifts and brow re-shaping to give a more youthful look.

Dermal fillers use a naturally occurring hydrating agent which is widely distributed in the skin but decreases with age. These fillers will increase the lost skin volume and provide gentle contouring, creating a naturally attractive effect to smooth and fill lines and wrinkles and erase the signs of skin fatigue. Dermal fillers are mainly used on the lower part of the face around the nose and lips, especially for pronounced smile lines, marionette lines and chin lines to erase deep facial lines and folds.
